Remember Ridiculously Cool Company, Leap Motion? Apple’s Andy Miller Just Joined the Team!
By: Hillel Fuld (@hilzfuld)
Every so often, a product launches that truly changes things forever. Products like the iPhone, for example. Then there are products that claim they will change things forever and just end up making a fool of themselves. Ahem, Airtime. But a third category of products is to me, the coolest of the bunch.
Have you ever come across a demo video of something you thought to yourself “There is no way this is real. It has to be a concept video only” only to discover that the product is indeed real and affordable?
That is the case for me with Leap Motion. Watch the video below and tell me you don’t feel like you are straight out of Minority Report…
Well, the Leap is very much real and it will only put you back $70. That to me, is the most shocking part of it all. But we all know the drill. It is one thing to see it in a company demo video, it is another story entirely to use it in real life. Or is it?
The company has been making its share of noise, no question about that, but how good is it as a real and practical solution that can do well in you know, the business world? Well, Leap Motion just announced that Andy Miller, former Apple iAd chief is joining the team. If you have no idea what iAd is, well that might be because it is a product that falls under the second category mentioned above. It was originally called Quattro Wireless, which was acquired by non-other than Apple inc. Apple was going to revolutionize mobile advertising, but there was one, or more accurately, a million small problems.
Apple made the entry price for iAd a million bucks. That didn’t go so well. The company then lowered it to a half a million. Still no interest. More recently, Apple did something very uncharacteristic and pretty much came begging by lowering the price yet again, this time to just $100,000. So far, that didn’t do the trick either.
Anyway, back to Leap Motion. Andy Miller joining the team will surely do wonders for the company. You can preorder the leap for $70 here. As for the move, Miller told TheNextWeb ”I’ve been fortunate to work with some of the most influential figures and companies in the technology industry, and I’m as excited about the Leap as I’ve ever been about a technology. The potential for the Leap is limitless, as it is going to fundamentally change the way we interact with so many devices in our lives. I’m thrilled to come on board and looking forward to growing Leap Motion into the technology powerhouse it’s on the road to becoming.”
Miller is joining Leap as COO and President. Now excuse me while I get my credit card and preorder two of these bad boys…

for real? where do I buy one?
That is brilliant. So the man responsible for what you call one of Apple's failures will lead this completely unrelated business and you think that is a good thing?
