The technology world and the various industries that were born out of it are growing faster than ever. As a result, the competition is fiercer than it has ever been. Whether you are an Apple fan or an Apple hater (since there does not seem to be a middle ground when it comes to this company), you cannot deny that the company is interesting from so many perspectives.

Being the most valuable company in the world and what might soon become the first trillion dollar company has people so devoted to Apple that many have described it as a near religious experience. If Apple was a religion, there is no question that Steve Jobs would be the charismatic leader that everyone follows.

The Isaacson biography was one of the more interesting books I have ever read and you can read my thoughts on it here. Even after all this time, Jobs is still very much present in tech events like last month’s D10 event and Apple’s recent WWDC. There are also new Steve Jobs videos showing up on the Web almost daily. Here is a good collection of them.

One of the many words used to describe Jobs is “visionary” and among the many fascinating stories of his life, the chapter of the Isaacson book on Apple stores was most interesting to me. When Jobs decided he wanted to build physical retail stores, everyone, without exception, laughed. They all said it was a horrible idea that would become a complete failure within a few years.

That was clearly not the case and Apple stores all but revolutionized retail shopping as a whole. The famous 5th Ave store alone became the highest grossing retail store in New York, not bad for a company that sells “overpriced” premium tech gadgets.

Anyway, there are many explanations for Jobs’ success, but if I had to choose one word to explain it, I would say that word would be “passion”. He believed in what he was doing with every bone in his body and while not everyone is as charismatic or even as smart as Jobs, the need for passion in everything we do is something we can learn from Jobs and his work.

Watch how Jobs speaks so passionately about the first Apple store. That passion and excitement might just have a little something to do with the experience shopping in Apple stores till today.
