The Lumia 900 Smartphone Beta Test Campaign is Super Entertaining and Brilliant!

Nokia and Microsoft (can we just call them Nokiasoft from now on?) have had their share of successful campaigns for their new-found love affair. There was the “Really?” campaign, which was fantastic and there was the recent Smoked by Windows Phone campaign, which made its share of noise.

The latest marketing push for the Lumia 900 is called The Smartphone Beta Test and it has been going on for a few weeks. The premise is simple. The Nokiasoft spokesperson leads you to believe that your previous usage of smartphones was just part of an elaborate test in which information was collected and then implemented with the new Nokia Lumia 900.

Some of the ads mention the famous iPhone Death Grip, the poor photography abilities of some Android phones, and more. Nokiasoft really took off the gloves here.

Well, along with taking over Times Square (albeit on a holiday. Ouch!), Nokiasoft released the final video of the Smartphone Beta Test campaign entitled “It’s Over” with the release of the new Lumia 900. You can see that video below followed by some of the previous videos in the campaign.

This, in my opinion, is a great way for Nokiasoft to get its message across. You can say a lot about the Windows Phone OS and its flagship Lumia devices, but one thing they are not, is boring or like anything we have ever seen.

While iOS and Android share many UI similarities, Windows Phone reinvented the way a mobile platform should look, from the ground up. It is for this reason that this campaign is so spot-on. The Lumia 900 does NOT have the best specs around, not even close.

Windows Phone is also nowhere in the race of apps. The one thing this platform has going for it, is its uniqueness (ok and its speed). That is what this campaign is targeting and it does a fantastic job communicating that. Enjoy the videos below and you can watch some of the others on YouTube here.

Nokia has been known for some pretty amazing advertising in the past as well

It's great that the beta test went off without a hitch, but actually making a dent in the market is whole different story. It will be interesting to see if Nokia can return to its old dominant ways or will it remain a few steps behind.
