Cargo-bot, the First iPad App Developed and Designed Using Only an iPad
By: Hillel Fuld (@hilzfuld)
Much like Apple is often credited for pretty much inventing the personal computer, it is hard to debate that the company single-handedly created a successful industry around tablets. Yes, there were tablet devices before the iPad, but we all know how that went…
Ever since the release of the original iPad, pretty much every consumer electronics company has done everything in its power to compete, and to this day, none have really succeeded.
The iPad, beyond its obvious gaming, media consuming, and web navigating aspects, has changed multiple industries including education and even how people pay for things. Based on this latest piece of news, the iPad might have just entered a new space, mobile development. Wait, what?
Yes, developers have created hundreds of thousands of mobile apps FOR the iPad, but none have been developed ON the iPad, until now. Cargo-bot, an iPad app, was developed, start to finish, using an iPad, and only an iPad.
To be honest, this does not surprise me and it was only a matter of time. Let me give a personal example of just how powerful and convenient the iPad has been in my day to day life. Just last night, I had to make an international call that was to include a live demo of a product. Yes, there are many solutions available for that, but I was relaxing on the couch at the time, and didn’t really feel like powering up my 24′ desktop computer.
I called the person on Skype, then launched the iPad app, Join.me and enjoyed a full-fledged interactive demo using audio, video, and screen sharing, all without moving from the couch. Not trivial at all!
Back to our topic, using a development environment app called Codea (previously Codify), Two Lives Left created a free iPad game called Cargo-Bot.
“Cargo-Bot is a puzzle game where you teach a robot how to move crates. Sounds simple, right? It features 36 fiendishly clever puzzles, haunting music and stunning retina graphics. You can even record your solutions and share them on YouTube to show your friends.”
As 9to5mac explains “Codea uses the Lua programming language and has called the GarageBand of iPad coding for its visual ease of use. Until now, apps built using Codea were only able to play inside the app. Using a preview of a new Open Source exporter tool, Codea exported the Cargo-bot app and submitted it to the App Store where it was recently approved.”
What is amazing about Codea, as you will see in the video, is how the development process is fully optimized for a touch interface. It also makes use of the device’s accelerometer and gyroscope to help you develop and design the best app possible.
I would say this is a pretty big breakthrough in the world of mobile devices, tablets, and how they are slowly forcing traditional PCs to go extinct.

So from smalls screens, desktop, laptops, and netbooks to 2-in-1 wide screen like TV/PC sizes. I could only give on credits to these amazing app development melbourne developers. Though I haven't seen a lot of users but I find it very trendy and cool especially for family use.
I really enjoy this app, but I do agree that levels go from easy to hard in one step. I do wish there were easier stages to get the basic idea down and also more useful hints.
