Many have argued that Siri, the new “personal assistant” on the iPhone 4S is nothing more than a glorified voice recognition application, and we all know how well those work. Whether or not you are captured by all the buzz surrounding Siri, you have to hand it to Apple. They marketed the heck out of this thing.

The Siri ads are fantastic and the very fact that Siri is available on iPhone completely covered up the fact that Apple did not really do anything too revolutionary with the 4S and it is selling like no other mobile device on the planet. Of course, another indication of its success is how hard Apple’s competition is trying to  jump on the Siri bandwagon. Both Google and Microsoft have  repeatedly talked about their very own “Siri killer” in the last month alone.

Of course, a new voice activated virtual assistant on a mobile device begs hackers to do what they do best. So we have had quite a down pour of Siri hacks, but this one puts them all to shame.

A new hack created by Yamaha for Yamaha lets Siri play music on a Yamaha Disklavier player piano from music files in your library. Gizmodo explains that “it works by streaming a special MIDI version of the music file through an Apple Airport Express and into the Disklavier piano, which then reproduces the piece, complete with key and pedal impressions.

And typical to Siri, there are some Easter Eggs jammed in there, like being able to tell your iPhone, “You played it for her, you can play it for me. Play it again, Siri,” and it will launch into “As Time Goes By” fromCasablanca.”

You don’t believe this can possibly be real, right? Neither did I and even after watching the video, I had my doubts, but from what I can tell, this is a legit story. Of course, this is Apple’s first Beta product in a long time, and possibly ever, so the complaints about Siri being “buggy” or imperfect are deemed unfair by many Apple fanboys.

Having said that, Apple is known to release products that just work, a result of the tight hold the company keeps on their ecosystem so with Siri, people did not expect anything different.

The next step is to open the API for Siri to do a whole lot more than it can do now, but we are getting ahead of ourselves here, so just sit back and enjoy the music played by non-other than the iPhone 4S and Siri!
