Rumors have been circulating about Apple expressing interest in an Israeli company called Anobit.Well, according to recent publications, the deal is now finalized with the price tag siting between $400 and $500 million, which makes Anobit Apple’s most expensive acquisition to date. For the sake of perspective, Apple bought Next, the company Steve Jobs started after being ousted from Apple for $400 million.

According to Israeli new site Calcalist, “Anobit’s executive team, comprised of Chairman and CEO Ehud Weinstein, President Ariel Maislos, and more reportedly informed their employees that the deal for a sale to Apple has been finalized”.

Anobit explains what they do in the following paragraph:

Anobit’s MSP™ (Memory Signal Processing) technology is comprised of proprietary signal processing algorithms combined with advanced error correction and innovative flash management schemes, resulting in a dramatic improvement in endurance, performance and system cost. Specifically, MSP™ enables SLC (one bit-per-cell) endurance and performance with MLC (two bits-per-cell) NAND, and MLC endurance and performance with TLC (three bits-per-cell) NAND, resulting in a significant reduction in cost per-bit.

9to5mac explains “Simplified, Anobit is the developer behind flash memory that is typically more reliable, faster, and better performing than the flash memory the current market is accustomed to. Flash memory is extremely important for Apple as it is the storage technology found in the iOS devices like iPads, iPhones, iPods, and Apple TVs, but perhaps more importantly is the storage technology that Apple is moving to in their Macs; the latest line of MacBook Airs for example.”

Apple is expected to open an R&D center in Haifa in the coming months, which would be Apple’s first development center outside of the U.S.

This story is still developing but any relationship between Israel and the world’s most valuable technology company puts smiles on our faces.
