We are nearing the end of 2011 and the iPad dominates the young tablet space. Everything is in order for the iPad to maintain that dominance, but there is one piece of the puzzle missing. One of the primary uses of a tablet is quick Web surfing and social networking. Of course, the undisputed kind of that space is Facebook. Except, there is no Facebook app for the iPad.

Sounds ridiculous and to be honest, it is! There are many generic apps for the iPad that let you access the site along with the Web app, but the company has yet to release an official version. Despite the lack of such an app, the Facebook iPad app has been in the news for months. There have been hacks that discovered the existence of the app within the iPhone app, then Facebook disabled that.

There have been some leaked screen shots of the mysterious iPad Facebook app, and there has even been a blog post by the man who developed it, saying he quit Facebook after the app was not released months after it was ready.

Well, here is the latest from the Mashable reporting team. At the iPhone 5 event, expected to take place in the beginning of October (4th?), Apple and Facebook will officially unveil the much anticipated Facebook app for iPad.

In addition, Facebook will announce a new release of the wildly popular Facebook iPhone app, which has been buggier than words can describe lately. along with a new HTML5 mobile app store. This should be interesting.

So why did it take so long? In one word, politics. Read about how this all went down here.

Whatever the case may be, as far as I am concerned, Facebook and Apple need to work out their differences and start working together in a more efficient manner. The way I see it, A Facebook and Apple collaboration would bring Apple some much needed presence on the social Web and would increase Facebook’s dominance over competitors like Google+ and others by offering the Facebook experience on Apple’s popular devices.

Meanwhile, we wait. Well, we wait and enjoy the leaks of the upcoming Facebook iPad app. Check out these screen shots below, they look interesting to say the least.
